Who We Are!

The Kent Meridian Cheer Squads are ALL Varsity Level Squads. Every squad member regardless of squad is expected to conduct themselves and perform at a Varsity level.Royals’ cheerleaders support both the curricular and extracurricular activities of Kent Meridian High School by promoting school spirit. Being a Royals Cheerleader is an honor and a privilege. Cheerleaders exist to promote good sportsmanship, good citizenship, community service and wholesome and enthusiastic school spirit. Cheerleaders are ambassadors of their school and their community. Royals Cheerleaders will exemplify both individual and group behavior suitable to their position in accordance with Kent School District and Kent Meridian High School rules. Royals Cheerleaders have a fundamental responsibility to play a leadership role in building teamwork and helping their squad and their school, achieve their goals and objectives. Because of these responsibilities, Royals Cheerleaders are expected to maintain a higher standard of behavior both academically and socially and strive for achievement better than that of their peers.

2019-2020 Try Out Information

Due to the regulations regarding COVID-19, KMHS has decided to hold a virtual try out for the 2020-2021 team. These tryouts will consist of multiple steps.

  • Email coaches indicating your interest in trying out for the 2020-2021 season

  • Coaches will email back a tryout packet, financial detail sheet, and a pre-recorded parent meeting

  • Parents/Guardians will reply (with the cheerleader on copy) indicating they reviewed the provided documentation and presentation

  • Coaches will reply back with links to try-out material that the cheerleaders will be responsible to learn

  • Tryout recordings will need to be sent to the coaches NO LATER than May 1st

Once coaches and judges have had a chance to review your packets and tryout material, they will be in contact with you. Please make sure all contact information on your packets is 100% accurate, coaches have had a tendency to call to review materials in the past, so make sure your phone number is accurate. Please note, this is a tryout to make the KMHS Varsity Team. Once we return to school, we will have an in person evaluation to do team placements for Fall/Winter, Fall Comp, or Winter Only.

Our Staff

We are the Kent Meridian Royals Cheer Coaching staff. All three of us have certification in the following:
•CPR/ First Aid/AED/ EpiPen
•WSCCA/WIAA Stunt Level 1 and 2
•WIAA Rules Clinic
•WIAA Concussion Clinic
•WIAA SCA Clinic
Coach Veronica (Coach V) is our Winter Head Coach. She was a KMHS cheerleader herself and joined out staff in 2018. She is also an apprentice for our Competition team and one of our team choreographers.Coach Jerry (Coach J) is the head coach for our entire program as well as the head coach for our Fall/Competition team. He has been coaching cheerleading for over 10 years and has been with Kent Meridian for the last eight years.Coach Erica (Coach E) is our head assistant coach and the assistant coach for our Fall/Competition team. She was a former cheerleader at a different local high school and has been coaching at Kent Meridian for the past nine years. She is our other team choreographer.

Our Teams

We will field THREE (3) teams; Fall-Traditional Comp, Fall/Winter and Winter only Squad.• The Fall/Traditional Comp Team will cheer for all Varsity Fall Sports and Compete during the Winter & Spring Seasons. We may compete at both the Local and National level.
• The Fall/Winter Team cheers for all Fall & Winter Sports as well as Spirit Events and Spring Events.
o NOTE: If you are trying out for either of the Fall Teams you MUST attend camp. Camp is July 31st – August 3rd at Great Wolf Lodge in Grand Mound WA. No exceptions will be made.
• The Winter Team will cheer at Winter Sports and other Spirit Events. This team may also be required to sit in the stands in their KMHS cheer warm ups as part of the spirit squad at fall sports as well.

The Fall/Winter and Fall/Competition teams both attend NCA Camp during the summer. All teams participate in a number of community service events throughout the season(s) and all cheerleaders participate in mandatory study tables each week and must maintain a 2.5 GPA to participate in sporting events. Those who make the competition team, maintain a 3.0 GPA. The competition team finishes their season at the United Spirit Nationals in Anaheim, CA.
